Important Vaccinations

Hello friends!

I am writing this blog to let our family and friends know our wishes. Due to the fact that our son will be born in the height of flu season, he won't able to be vaccinated until he is 6 months and per our Doctors recommendations, we are asking anyone who might spend time with our son in the first 3-4 months of his life to have the flu vaccination and Tdap ( pertussis) vaccination booster. The Pertussis vaccine is something we all receive as a child but by the time we are adults we have lost the immunity and Pertussis AKA Whooping cough is fatal to infants. Many of us have had a tetanus/ pertussis combo, and if you have had this in recent years you should be fine but if you can't remember just go ahead and get it. Not just for my child sake, but for your own immunity. The flu can also be fatal to infants so that goes without saying.

Now, I am totally pro vaccine, I've seen the good they do, not the bad and many diseases have been eradicated because of vaccines. Not to mention I am a Registered Nurse.  This blog is not to stir the pot for those of you who for whatever reason don't get vaccines. You absolutely have the right to control whatever goes into your body or your children's bodies, as do I. So if this rubs you the wrong way and you just don't want to get a flu shot, that is fine. We just respectfully ask that you do not visit in this time frame. Once spring/summer comes and the risk for flu is low and he's had his shots then we will welcome wet kisses all around. Thanks for understanding.
